The Penclic Core Mechanics Project 0001 Split Mechanical Keyboard, part of the Dataflex range, is a split mechanical keyboard designed for programmers and professionals who spend long hours typing. The two halves can be positioned to match the user’s shoulder width, promoting a more natural hand and wrist position than a conventional one-piece keyboard. Combined with programmable layers, dedicated macro keys and quiet tactile switches, it brings together ergonomic comfort and serious functionality for demanding professional use.
On a standard keyboard, the hands are drawn inwards and the wrists bend outwards to reach the keys. Splitting the keyboard into two halves allows each one to be placed in line with the shoulders, optimising spacing and typing angle. This helps reduce strain on the wrists, arms and shoulders and supports a more comfortable posture during extended typing sessions. Removable magnetic palm rests provide additional support and can be attached or removed to suit personal preference.
Alongside the default layout, the keyboard offers three fully programmable layers, allowing keys to be remapped and secondary functions assigned to match individual workflows. Four dedicated macro keys give single-press access to frequently used commands or complex sequences, saving time on repetitive tasks.
Six programmable LED indicators, including layout and Caps Lock and Num Lock indicators, can be controlled from the command line. This allows developers to integrate the LEDs into their own processes, for example to signal when a build script has finished.
Matias Quiet Click mechanical switches deliver a clear tactile response comparable to Cherry MX Brown switches, but with less noise, making them well suited to shared offices and open-plan environments. N-key rollover ensures every keystroke is registered accurately, even during fast or complex typing. With an average reaction time of 1ms (0.5ms from the 1kHz USB polling rate and 0.5ms from the key matrix scan), the keyboard responds quickly and consistently.
The keyboard connects via USB with no drivers required and works with any operating system supporting HID 1.1, including Windows XP or later, macOS 10.1 or later, and Linux and BSD. A 1.2m cable links the two halves, while the 1.8m USB cable provides plenty of reach to the computer.
PBT keycaps resist wear and shine, offering greater longevity than standard ABS keycaps. Reinforced braided nylon cables are built to withstand daily use, supporting a keyboard designed for precision, comfort and long-term reliability.
